These catfish originate in South America. Since many colors, sizes, and patterns can be found, common names often aren’t enough to identify one pleco from another. So, in 1988, a tropical fish magazine in Germany called DATZ assigned “L” numbers to distinguish species. Although not scientific, the system works.

We carry a few plecos that have not been assigned their L number, but we are sure the Germans will get around to these eventually.

Most plecos do better with a little driftwood in the tank.

ADONIS PLECO L-155 is wild caught in Peru. The size does not include the long streaming tail fin which is the hallmark of Adonis plecos.
