Choosing the right gourami for your tank
Small species such as honey, sparkling and dwarf gouramis are comfortable in 10 to 20 gallons, while pearl, three-spot and kissing gouramis need 30 gallons or more, and giant gouramis outgrow all but the largest home aquariums. Most gouramis prefer warm water of 74 to 82°F, gentle flow and plenty of plants, including floating plants for shade and bubble nests.
Gouramis are generally peaceful, but males can be territorial with each other, so keep one male per tank or provide lots of space and cover. Good tankmates include tetras, rasboras, corydoras and other calm fish; avoid fin nippers and boisterous barbs. Feed quality flake or small pellets with frozen or freeze-dried foods a few times a week.
