The most basic most popular sword plant in the aquarium hobby is the Amazon Sword. The sword family echinodorus grows all over the Western Hemisphere. Swords are actually marsh plants that will grow emersed and submersed. The Amazon sword in found throughout shallow waterways and marshes in South America. Amazon Swords require some fertilizer, a few hours of direct light, and can grow in common aquarium gravel. Swords are hardy and can handle temperatures from 70 to 80 degrees but will not handle Ph above 7.5. Maximum size of the Amazon Sword is 20 inches.
