Triggerfish are intelligent, curious fish known for their bold personalities, powerful jaws, and in many cases, a strong aggressive streak as they mature.

Tank Size

Most triggerfish grow to a substantial size and need a large, robust tank with strong filtration to handle their bioload and active swimming.

Temperament

Many triggerfish species become increasingly aggressive with age and should generally be housed with similarly robust, non-timid tankmates that can hold their own.

Reef Compatibility

Most triggerfish are not considered reef-safe, as they will readily eat ornamental shrimp, snails, and sometimes even peck at coral.

Diet

Triggerfish have powerful jaws adapted for crushing shellfish and readily accept a varied diet of frozen and meaty foods.
